A free publication that summarises health and healthcare reporting, and writes about adult education. It sells nothing, provides no service and treats nobody. Articles are dated summaries of what was published elsewhere.

Nothing on this site is medical advice, a diagnosis, a prescription or a substitute for a consultation. Nobody who writes here is a clinician and no article has been reviewed by one. A study describes what happened in the population it studied; it says nothing about you, your history, your medication or your risk.
Do not delay seeking medical help because of something you read here, and do not stop or change a treatment on the strength of an article. Take those decisions with a doctor or a pharmacist. If a situation is urgent, call your local emergency number.
The risk calculator
It is arithmetic on numbers you type: a baseline risk and a reported relative change, converted into an absolute change and a number needed to treat. It knows nothing about the study behind those numbers, whether the finding is reliable, whether it applies to anyone like you, or what a treatment costs in side effects. It is a way of reading a headline, not an assessment of anybody’s risk.
Accuracy
We try to be accurate and we correct mistakes when they are pointed out, but the site is provided as it is, without warranty. Health guidance changes faster than an archive does: articles here are from 2022 and 2023 and some of them describe practice that has since moved on. Check the date, and check current guidance with a clinician.
