Privacy Policy

This page describes what happens to data when you read eyesonobama.com. On a site with a health section that matters more than usual: what people read about illness is among the most sensitive information there is, so the short version is that we collect as little as a web server can.

Who we are

The site is eyesonobama.com. Enquiries, including about this page: [email protected].

What is collected

  • Server logs. Like any web server, ours records the request: IP address, time, page, referring page and browser user-agent. Used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse, and not combined with anything else or used to build a profile.
  • No analytics, no advertising pixel. There is no tracking script on this site. Nobody is told which health articles you read.
  • Comments are off. Commenting is disabled site-wide, so no name, address or comment text is collected.
  • No contact form. The contact page publishes an email address. If you write to it, we hold your message and address for as long as it takes to answer you.
  • The risk calculator. It runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you type are never sent to the server and are not stored; reloading clears them. That is deliberate — a baseline risk you typed is a health question you asked, and we would rather not have it.

Cookies

Reading the site does not require you to accept any cookie. Cookies are set only if you log in as an editor, and the caching layer may set a technical cookie so a logged-in editor is served an uncached page.

Requests to other companies

  • Google Fonts. Typefaces are loaded from Google’s font service, so your browser requests fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, which reveals your IP address to Google. This is the only third party involved in rendering an ordinary page.
  • Embedded content. Some articles embed material from other sites. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other site, including any tracking it does.
  • Outbound links. Some links on this site are paid placements. They are ordinary links: following one takes you to that company’s own site, where its own privacy policy applies.

How long things are kept, and your rights

Server logs are rotated and discarded on the hosting platform’s normal schedule; email is kept while it is useful for answering you. If you have written to us you can ask what we hold, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete it — write to [email protected]. Because the site sets no identifying cookie and asks readers for nothing, there is usually nothing to return for someone who has only read it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version replaces this page, and material changes will be described at the top of it.
